Y Hello Thar

I love this paint-y coloring style. Initially this was going to be finished in color pencil, but I ruined it, and forgot to scan the lineart after I inked it. I think it's mostly all right, though. I'm not sure where I'm going with the background (real background that you have to like, draw and stuff, are HARD. I have a lot of respect for people who can draw their own backgrounds and do it well). Nyx doesn't look very well incorporated with the background yet (a lot of this has to do with me manually erasing the white background rather than using magic wand and cleaning up) and I'm pretty confused with the lighting. It was fun to do, though! It's also nice to have a more-or-less completed picture of Nyx, since he's been in the designing stages for two years...

Thoughts?

Redesigning Yoshiko

'Sup.

With one thing or the other I feel it's time to redesign Yosh and connect with her character. However, I've been pretty unhappy with everything I've come up with so far. I've been looking at photos of animals and came to the realization that Yosh is not actually a fox like I'd thought all along (don't even start with how obvious that was from the beginning due to my absolutely inability to draw snouts). So I was looking up other animals and decided that my favorite animals ar...er....well...creatures that mostly wouldn't work in every design of her I've come up with. Like...octopi, hedgehogs, skunks, ocelots. Goddamn this new LJ cut is annoying. See, my problem is that I want to design her to be able to fit into a bunch of different molds at once, including "Cuddly goofball," "Badass warrior," and "elegant priestess." THIS IS HARD TO DO. So far I've changed her bellybutton tattoo a bit and given her spots a la ocelots. No matter what she's gotta have a big fluffy tail. And...that's really as far as I've gotten. In about the past 8 months. o_ohoobeha. Suggestions are welcomed!

Now for one of my typical naked-emo Yosh images! Yosh is started to not really feel like me anymore, which is kind of frustrating, especially because I'm not sure what to change to make it a better fit. I think I may need to start completely from scratch when it comes to designing her.

Yeah, anatomy sucks. Don't care. I am proud of that nipple. It is one of the very few I have ever drawn. Nipples are TRICKY, and don't try to convince me otherwise...well...because of limited experience, I suppose.

My question to you:

color, greyscale, b&w? other? I think it could be rather striking done in black and white or b&w+ an additional color, but it would also be fun to do full-on color, except I'm lazy.

He's not one much for drawing so he dictates and I sketch. We haven't sorted much out about this guy besides the fact that he wears black pants. Good job! Very descriptive! There's no name, except for "Nox" which is what we're calling him until the rest of the name sorts itself out. I think he has long gold hair tied in a braid or one of those leather-wrap things like Yuna from FFX-2. I also think he has black fur with goldish spots on his shoulders, but we'll see....

Slowly working on the coloring process....If I keep the grey-shading, it'll need tweaking before I'm wholly satisfied. My Siv'e and Briana's Suki.

I've also posted another entry that is friends' only, so I'm sure the majority of you will be able to see it. :)

Wrote notes all over the bottom of the page saying what I liked and what I wanted to change in the final version. The final version is currently being sketched but is slow-going because I wanted more of the male leopardy-panther in end product and his design is currently not fleshed out at ALL.

Yosh has got three tails now. The muse demanded it.

Lineart for Briana, sketches

This was/is going to be for my ex-boyfriend before we had a bit of a falling out. I'm not sure if I'll finish it. THE POSE IS NOT MINE. IT IS BARA-CHAN'S. See hers here: http://www.barachan.com/art/junk/images/2007/070130usagi.jpg

For Briana. :) "The Air Near My Fingers." It'll look sexier when it's done, promise. I kind of like the lines in the shading, (as you can see from Suki's head) but I was unsure if I wanted to continue them...still deciding.

I posed for myself for this image...took some pretty funky photos for reference.

I LIKE this one. I had fun with Yosh's hair. The art muse says "she needs three tails" so we'll see.. I'd really like to finish it. Unsure if I'll keep the legs or not.

I wanted to color something a few weeks ago so I found an old drawing of Yosh that I didn't like so much and attacked it. I may do something more with it...I brought my prismas back to school with me so I may add more pigment or I may add a background or something..hmm..

"But a deltoid and a bicep
A hot groin and a tricep
Makes me
Oooohhhh
Shake
Makes me wanna take Charles Atlas by the
hand
In just seven days I can make you a man."

Nurses, nurses!

So I was playing around with that nurse image (still! I know!) and was wondering which version you guys thought I should continue with (or if I should try a different coloring scheme altogether)

The one on the left is just regular Yosh-coloring. The one on the right is heavily inspired by Koumi's lovely colors (http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/6583/yosh02lb4.jpg) because it just looked friggin' cool and I wanted to give that style of coloring a try for myself. Plus I think it may make the colors stand out a bit more. Or something. Hrm. Ideas? Thoughts? The one on the left is like "Hello! We are lots of bright colors whoo!" the one on the right says "Hi there we are muted so the cross stands out a bunch more."

EDIT: I cannot tell left from right. This caused only a few minor problems on my driver's test, (which I passed. hah!)

Oh yeah! I got a tablet from one of my roommates, and also a copy of Painter IX. :D I'm happy!

WIP Yosh + Nazaka

I'm not sure if I just want to leave it with flat colors or not. I'm not sure if shading it would really give any additional substance to the image. Hrrmf. I flat-out suck at cell-shading, too, which would be pretty much the only acceptable type of shading.

I'm unhappy with the way the syringe is coming out. I don't think red is the right color for the liquid inside it, but I can't think of any other good color (really, most fluids in syrings would be either clear or red, right?)

Any other tips...pass 'em along! Thanks!

New work-in-progress

Please check this out and give me feedback. I appreciate any advice!

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/48241980/

I'm considering playing around with the cliche'd grey in the shadows, but..eh..we'll see. A little bit of grey looks pretty sexy but if I do this I want to make sure I don't get too much grey-shadow-shit everywhere. XB

The colors look AWFUL because I don't know how to adjust the color settings in photoshop. I have beautiful, vibrant colors when I'm coloring, but after saving the colors are muddy and dull looking. I really need to figure out how to fix this!

I had so much fun "painting" this, but I want to hear what you think I can do to improve. For once I tried not to use any soft brushes/airbrushing/smudging and rely only on the blocky paintbrush and I'm pleased with the results. Kinda. So far.

Anyway. HOOYAH.

I think I might even be able to coax my printer to scan! O wonder of wonders and joy of joys!

Nazaka sketch

New sketch. The more critiques I get the happier I'll be.

</a>

Naza had a cute nurse photo so I wanted to do my take on it. Of course, being as it's ME drawing I had to add gratuitous cleavage shots. Why? It's just what I do. I have been drawing cat-girls more or less in lingerie for the past five years, why stop now? o___o; (I reeeeally need to branch out)

Their outfits would probably be extremely inconvenient for actually doing any nurse-ly duties, but hell with it. :P

Obviously Yosh (left) and Naza will be getting hands. Naza will be holding a syringe in each hand.

Do the squirts from the big syringe look right? I think the bottom left one could use some scooching over. Do I even need a syringe? I debated, but I think it looks better with than without.

Bob bugs me. He's too small, for one, and I can't get the teeth to look right. (He gets butterfly wings because I've always pictured him buzzing around flapping madly to stay aloft because he's so not aerodynamic. however, the wings look stupid.) I think I might actually omit him entirely because the eye's kind of drawn to him rather than focusing on Yosh. Hrrm. I need sleep.

Because I continue to be awful at remembering:

<*img src="URL HERE">
<*lj user=username>
<*lj-cut text="shiggity shwaa"> typeity-type stuff goes here <*/lj-cut>

Lots of fluffiness!

I know the vast majority of the picture doesn't make sense but that's what my brain said to draw. I realize lilacs aren't bush-flowers rather than tree-flowers but I'm going to make a lilac tree/bush/thing anyway. I don't think I'll actually draw the flowers out, rather I plan to stick a lilac stock photo into the "leaf part" of the tree. We'll see. Could look cool or just crappy.

I AM EXCITED. I will probably not get a chance to work on this for another two weeks (when I get home and have a scanner that works) but hopefully I'll have lineart done by then.

It is freaking hot in my dorm. Thank heavens there's only 2 weeks left.

art wip

Yes! It's true! An update! I have now have a copy of Photoshop CS thanks to Zack, though my scanner will be out of commission for a month or so.

Issa sayu. Trying a different style of coloring. I intend to blur it all and maybe it'll look better than my usual slopping airbrushed stuff all over lineart. It would be SUPER appreciated if someone could tell me what to do with the nose. I think I screwed it up by having the nose ring too far to the left. I dunno. HELP MEEEEE.

colors are actually more vibrant. I hope it's not TOO bright, though. My comp. brightness was REALLY bright on my PC, so when I looked at my art on the mac I was really surprised that they were so...retina-bleeding-inducing.

It would be really nice if someone could tell me how to take a screenshot on a mac. I am printscreen-key-less, now.

Need to go re-hunt down brushes and stock photos and such.

no new art and an explanation why (plus some whining)

THE POINT: I'm drawing more, but don't expect anything posted until after Thanksgiving at the earliest. I still need Photoshop, and I'm being nostalgic about my old DA account.

Still on the hunt for Photoshop. I would really like to find it soon so I can stop bitching about it, but for now, bitching is the only thing that will further my quest for it. I can't download it from my computer at school, because the resnet will catch it and suspend my internet for a month. I think if I can't get someone to send it to me before Thanksgiving, I'll try to dl it over bittorrent on my parent's PC. I don't know how well that will work, esp. because I don't know how to use bittorrent. Here's hoping it's intuitive.

So, you've heard it all before, but I will continue to repeat myself: Send mac version of photo editing software my way for undying adoration.

***

My scanner doesn't work with my computer. I need to go hunt down drivers for it. Or something. So no art. I'll be with a working scanner and PS7 on my parents' comp when I go home, but I won't have time to scan anything over Thanksgiving break unless I make it a priority, which, knowing me, I won't. Bad, lazy girl. We'll see what I can do and if anything gets inked.

***

I totally drew last night instead of studying for my math midterm like I was supposed to. I was looking at the gift art I've gotten over the years and realized that I missed Yosh. So I drew her and Bob, because I haven't for ages. I don't much like the finished result, but it was really nice to just let art flow out of the pencil again. I think this is why I have so many issues drawing gift art - I tell my brain "draw this character!" and it's like "naahhhhh you need more Yosh or Sayu half-finished crapdoodles" and so it was thus. I don't really like it, but I want to ink + photoshop it. It would look excellent with a navy blue and dark green bg with some orange highlights. aggh. I miss making backgrounds the most.

***

I miss my old DA account. *weep* I think what I miss more is having an active account, where I upload something new once or twice a week, and have more people talking to me. I guess it's understandable now, esp. since I've uploaded like 5 things in the past year. If that. But anyway. Some people don't even talk to me anymore, I guess because they think I'm dead. Pssh. Whatever. I guess we weren't that great of friends anyway. You can find some real friends over DA, but not too many.

New (huge) crap sketches.

Updates when I'm home from school because parents have a PC with Photoshop.

My mac has two image editting programs, neither of which will let you RESIZE an image.

Mmf.

Sorry the pictures are SO BIG.

This was drawn Nov '04. It was supposed to be my Holiday picture, with Sayu under a palm tree with a mistletoe sprig. Never happened.

Drawn Spring '05 after watching Spirited Away. (dsdhfklajhf FANART?!? Yes.) Wanted to try out a human Yosh, decided to add "water" to have a submerged-ish floor. Well, maybe someday this'll be completed. Nicely. Yeah right.

Not much being drawn, maybe that'll change once school starts. I'll try to get stuff uploaded if that's the case.

I'll have to figure out how to fix that or ...something.

ALSO. Can anyone give me links to sites of models? I just screw up far too much without some visual reference.
ALSO. Any tips for drawing water/water splashes?
ALSO. PEOPLE WHO KNOW HTML: How do I set up a picture that provides a link to a different page when you click on it? (like clicking on a thumbnail to see a larger version. or clicking on shameless advertising to go to my gaia commissions page.)

Thank you. Very much.

YES THAT IS NIPPLE ACTION GOING ON. OMFGWTF?!?!?!??!

It kind of fits since their are spirits and whatnot hanging out in Yosh's lantern. At least that was the idea. >>

Hopefully this'll get finished? All this was drawn last night in about an hour, which is a really good pace for me. Who knows.

All right, so I don't know how to make a link without the ugly little url tag. Anyone care to enlighten me?

http://www.deviantart.com/view/10722469/

Yeah...it's kind of big. The final/colored version will be larger, though. (It looks a lot better in rl)

Anyway. This is a character I've had for about three or so years now. Never been able to get any pictures of him beyond sketches, though. I had fun with the designing and inking this time around, though.

Yes, he's carrying Bob. This was supposed to be a sexy-wonderful plot twist but ...uh...well, it doesn't seem so spiffy anymore. Bob and Aeiryn are supposed to be the same person. Aeiryn was just lazy and hanging out in a skull. Because. I said so. >>;

Critiques and whatnot are welcome. The only thing _I_ see wrong with it right now is the hand that's holding the lance is kind of...not holding it. >>; But anyway.

MY ENGLISH TEACHER IS A NAZI AND SHE ASSIGNS TOO MUCH HOMEWORK SO DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING FINISHED AND PRETTY FOR A GOOD LONG TIME.
