Initially this was going to be finished in color pencil, but I ruined it, and forgot to scan the lineart after I inked it. I think it's mostly all right, though. I'm not sure where I'm going with the background (real background that you have to like, draw and stuff, are HARD. I have a lot of respect for people who can draw their own backgrounds and do it well). Nyx doesn't look very well incorporated with the background yet (a lot of this has to do with me manually erasing the white background rather than using magic wand and cleaning up) and I'm pretty confused with the lighting. It was fun to do, though! It's also nice to have a more-or-less completed picture of Nyx, since he's been in the designing stages for two years...

Thoughts?

'Sup.

With one thing or the other I feel it's time to redesign Yosh and connect with her character. However, I've been pretty unhappy with everything I've come up with so far. I've been looking at photos of animals and came to the realization that Yosh is not actually a fox like I'd thought all along (don't even start with how obvious that was from the beginning due to my absolutely inability to draw snouts). So I was looking up other animals and decided that my favorite animals ar...er....well...creatures that mostly wouldn't work in every design of her I've come up with. Like...octopi, hedgehogs, skunks, ocelots. Goddamn this new LJ cut is annoying. See, my problem is that I want to design her to be able to fit into a bunch of different molds at once, including "Cuddly goofball," "Badass warrior," and "elegant priestess." THIS IS HARD TO DO. So far I've changed her bellybutton tattoo a bit and given her spots a la ocelots. No matter what she's gotta have a big fluffy tail. And...that's really as far as I've gotten. In about the past 8 months. o_ohoobeha. Yosh is started to not really feel like me anymore, which is kind of frustrating, especially because I'm not sure what to change to make it a better fit. I think I may need to start completely from scratch when it comes to designing her.

Yeah, anatomy sucks. Don't care. I am proud of that nipple. It is one of the very few I have ever drawn. Nipples are TRICKY, and don't try to convince me otherwise...well...because of limited experience, I suppose.

My question to you:

color, greyscale, b&w? other? I think it could be rather striking done in black and white or b&w+ an additional color, but it would also be fun to do full-on color, except I'm lazy.

He's not one much for drawing so he dictates and I sketch. We haven't sorted much out about this guy besides the fact that he wears black pants. Good job! Very descriptive! There's no name, except for "Nox" which is what we're calling him until the rest of the name sorts itself out. I think he has long gold hair tied in a braid or one of those leather-wrap things like Yuna from FFX-2. I also think he has black fur with goldish spots on his shoulders, but we'll see....

Slowly working on the coloring process....If I keep the grey-shading, it'll need tweaking before I'm wholly satisfied.
So I was playing around with that nurse image (still! The one on the right is heavily inspired by Koumi's lovely colors (http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/6583/yosh02lb4.jpg) because it just looked friggin' cool and I wanted to give that style of coloring a try for myself. Plus I think it may make the colors stand out a bit more. Or something. Hrm. Ideas? Thoughts? The one on the left is like "Hello! We are lots of bright colors whoo!" the one on the right says "Hi there we are muted so the cross stands out a bunch more."

EDIT: I cannot tell left from right.
Yes! It's true! An update! I have now have a copy of Photoshop CS thanks to Zack, though my scanner will be out of commission for a month or so.

Issa sayu. Trying a different style of coloring. I intend to blur it all and maybe it'll look better than my usual slopping airbrushed stuff all over lineart. It would be SUPER appreciated if someone could tell me what to do with the nose. I think I screwed it up by having the nose ring too far to the left. I dunno. HELP MEEEEE.

colors are actually more vibrant. I hope it's not TOO bright, though. My comp. brightness was REALLY bright on my PC, so when I looked at my art on the mac I was really surprised that they were so...retina-bleeding-inducing.

It would be really nice if someone could tell me how to take a screenshot on a mac. I am printscreen-key-less, now.

Need to go re-hunt down brushes and stock photos and such.

<lj:music>The White Stripes - Blue Orchid</lj:music>

THE POINT: I'm drawing more, but don't expect anything posted until after Thanksgiving at the earliest. I still need Photoshop, and I'm being nostalgic about my old DA account.

Still on the hunt for Photoshop. I would really like to find it soon so I can stop bitching about it, but for now, bitching is the only thing that will further my quest for it. I can't download it from my computer at school, because the resnet will catch it and suspend my internet for a month. I think if I can't get someone to send it to me before Thanksgiving, I'll try to dl it over bittorrent on my parent's PC. I don't know how well that will work, esp. because I don't know how to use bittorrent. Here's hoping it's intuitive.

So, you've heard it all before, but I will continue to repeat myself: Send mac version of photo editing software my way for undying adoration.

***

My scanner doesn't work with my computer. I need to go hunt down drivers for it. Or something. So no art. I'll be with a working scanner and PS7 on my parents' comp when I go home, but I won't have time to scan anything over Thanksgiving break unless I make it a priority, which, knowing me, I won't. Bad, lazy girl. We'll see what I can do and if anything gets inked.

***

I totally drew last night instead of studying for my math midterm like I was supposed to. I was looking at the gift art I've gotten over the years and realized that I missed Yosh. So I drew her and Bob, because I haven't for ages. I don't much like the finished result, but it was really nice to just let art flow out of the pencil again. I think this is why I have so many issues drawing gift art - I tell my brain "draw this character!" and it's like "naahhhhh you need more Yosh or Sayu half-finished crapdoodles" and so it was thus. I don't really like it, but I want to ink + photoshop it. It would look excellent with a navy blue and dark green bg with some orange highlights. aggh. I miss making backgrounds the most.

***

I miss my old DA account. *weep* I think what I miss more is having an active account, where I upload something new once or twice a week, and have more people talking to me. I guess it's understandable now, esp. since I've uploaded like 5 things in the past year. If that. But anyway. Some people don't even talk to me anymore, I guess because they think I'm dead. Pssh. Whatever. I guess we weren't that great of friends anyway. You can find some real friends over DA, but not too many.
