I'm considering playing around with the cliche'd grey in the shadows, but..eh..we'll see. A little bit of grey looks pretty sexy but if I do this I want to make sure I don't get too much grey-shadow-shit everywhere. XB

The colors look AWFUL because I don't know how to adjust the color settings in photoshop. I have beautiful, vibrant colors when I'm coloring, but after saving the colors are muddy and dull looking. I really need to figure out how to fix this!

I had so much fun "painting" this, but I want to hear what you think I can do to improve. For once I tried not to use any soft brushes/airbrushing/smudging and rely only on the blocky paintbrush and I'm pleased with the results. Kinda. So far.

Anyway. HOOYAH.

I think I might even be able to coax my printer to scan! O wonder of wonders and joy of joys!

EEEEE YOSHART it is beautiful and so cool and I love it and want more. I dunno what to say re: photoshop and weird colors. Are you setting the quality to 100%? That's honestly the only thing I can think of. Maybe don't save it in .jpg? No idea. ANYWAY.

- The shading on her torso makes her look too skinny. I reeeally like the purple color but specifically where it's at on her tummy is contributing to the problem here, I think

- More dynamic shading! The purple is great but other then that there's really not a lot of color expiermentation goin' on, which is a shame. In the desc. you said you wanted to finish coloring so you could add in a bg but really, the coloring on Ariel should be affected BY the bg. If you're going to have her in a blue bg (so I'm assuming, I mean, she's a mermaid and they're usually in water) Her skin should reflect this (and it maybe it should replace the purple then) A lot of people don't like using weird ass colors when they draw because no one thinks that green or blue or whatever belongs in skin but if you try it out, it actually ends up looking pretty cool (when used appropriately)

- For the lighting, you don't seem to have a color at all but the white. The white, painted on like all the other colors, doesn't do a lot for her and it kinda just looks murky and unnatural on her skin and specially on the purple flower/shellbra.

- Speaking of the purple, the shading is very dull compared to the skin and tail area

- This is a personal thing but when I color skin, I set the bleed to high and I add in some light red to the skin tone. It just makes it feel more fresh, imo

THAT'S IT can't wait to see the finished result. must sleep now.

Thanks a lot. I need to think more about the composition as a whole rather than just trying to stick lineart and background together. They need to interact, not just coexist.

I'm a little confused about this purple you keep referring to. I honestly don't see any purple in the picture except for the bra and flower. More proof that the colors on my computer are fsked up, I suppose.

Aside from that, I totally second the "more dynamic coloring" as I'd like to do something a bit sexier than just plain colors...I'll have to play around with the weird-ass colors like you suggested, and maybe even some gradients. Meh. I'll play around.

I'll give the the red-skin-thing a shot, too! Thanks for the advice...I really, really appreciate it!

YOU MAY BE RIGHT I took it in paint and eyedropped it and it looks like a weird brownish color but my eye read it as purple;; Sorry. But here, I circled what I was referring to (with the torso part) anyway:

As far as dynamic coloring goes, I read once that-- you remember the color wheel right? And the opposites, like purple-yellow, blue-orange, red-green? I read once that whatever color is the light source (e.g. orange) then the shading will be it's opposite (blue, in this case). No idea if it's right but it sounds true and I've always kept it in mind. if anything, it gave me reason to justify using weird ass colors on the skin. anyway, I can't wait to see the finished product *A* ♥♥♥
